At 06.09 hours on 25 Mar, 1942, the unescorted Narragansett (Master Michael Blackburn Roberts) was hit in the stern by one torpedo from U-105 about 400 miles east of Hampton Roads, Virginia and sank burning after a hit with a coup de grace at 06.18 hours. The master, 42 crew members and six gunners were lost.
