With him was Capt Percy John Jowett, 29 (1st Bn A Coy). Featherstone recalled: "Major Burges sent his orderly to call me to instruct me about a withdrawal. Captain Jowett of C Company went with me. We found that Major Burges had been killed by another shell bursting over his head; Captain Jowett went back for instructions while I remained in charge of both companies, Capt Jowett being the last officer left to C Company. I watched him as he walked back through a world heaving with explosions and sprayed with shrapnel till he disappeared in the drifting smoke and dust for ever.".

12554Sergeant Wilfred Ernald Konigkramer, 1311984, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, aged 23. Killed in action, two RAF Wellington, the HX518 and HX423, belonging to 15 OTU are attacked at the height of the islands Sisargas. The aircraft had taken off from England to the Middle East and met a Ju-88, which rose rapidly to gain speed on them. In two passes tripped the HX518, but in turn the Junkers was shot down by defensive fire from the HX423, which was damaged.

32412Corporal Michael Daniel Otto, 77492015BT, 912 Battalion (South West African Territory Force), aged 21. Died in Military Vehicle Accident, when the SAMIL vehicle he was driving overturned at Okahandja. He was driving the vehicle down the Bobbejaan Road from Oshiri Base Camp outside Okahandja down the mountain to the tar road T-Junction when the vehicles brakes failed. The vehicle was picking up speed so he decided to carry straight on over the tar road into the veld instead of turning onto the tar road. Unfortunately there was a ditch on the other side of the tar road and the vehicles nose dug into the ditch and the vehicle flipped over. His actions, at the cost of his own life, were instrumental in saving the lives of those who were riding on the back of the vehicle as they were thrown clear when the vehicle flipped over.

Died in aircraft accident, when his Atlas MB326M Impala Mk I, Serial No. 464 crashed into the sea off Durban during a training exercise with the South African Navy. His rear-seater, Captain Renier Pienaar ejected successfully and was rescued from the sea by the Navy.
