33887Lieutenant William Edmund St. Elmo Wilson, P1/34883, 2 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 25. Killed in action, in North American F-51 Mustang #319. Lts W.E. St E. Wilson, Frost, Gow and de la Harpe were conducting an armed reconnaissance of road routes from Wonsan through Hamhung, terminating at the Chosin reservoir. After arriving over Wonsan, Lt Wilson informed Lt Gow that he was about to begin his sweep and the flight lost altitude. North of Wonsan, Wilson did a search of the roads, and at Munchon he called to say that he intended to orbit to the left. He was seen to complete two circles, when he suddenly banked to the right and commenced climbing. Lt Gow noticed that Lt Wilson's aircraft was streaming white smoke, and on advising him, was told that it was coolant as the aircraft's temperature was rising. No flak had been observed. Lt Wilson baled out at 3000 feet north of Wonsan, but landed in the choppy sea rather than on land. Lt Gow sent out a Mayday call and a SA-16 amphibious aircraft responded within the hour. While waiting for the SA-16, numerous aircraft attempted to locate Lt Wilson in the water, without success. The SA-16 landed and spotted glimpses of Lt Wilson's Mae West lifejacket, but after 35 minutes this disappeared, and he was not seen again.

33376Rifleman Pieter Benjamin Uys-Olivier, 01488550PE, 17 Sqdn. (SA Army), aged 34. Killed in aircraft accident, in Beechcraft Baron. He was detached from 17 Sqn on special duties and was piloting the plane as he had extensive experience on the type with Light Aircraft Command. The plane, known as "Dinky Toy" was supplied by UNITA and had been checked out by SAAF personel at Rundu. It was busy with aerial observations for Battlegroup Foxbat in the Silva Porta area of Angola when it crashed, 6km north of Norton de Matos. The SADF investigation team could not determine the exact cause of the crash.

It was busy with aerial observations for Battlegroup Foxbat in the Silva Porta area of Angola when it crashed, 6km north of Norton de Matos. The SADF investigation team could not determine the exact cause of the crash.

- 1981 33898 — Lieutenant Wolfgang Joachim Trinkl, 70438304, 1 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Army), aged 26. Died of bullet wound to the chest, suspected suicide.

- 1982 32232 — Lance Corporal Johnny Attila Nemeth, 78245263BG, 7 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 19. Died in Military Vehicle Accident, at Hazyview. Tyre burst on the vehicle and it rolled, killing him.

- 1986 37027 — Constable Ben Nzama, S602319F, Free State (South African Police), aged 28. Died of pneumonia, at Roberts Heights Hospital.

- 1989 31275 — Rifleman Christian Le Wack, 84064559HC, 5 South African Infantry Battalion (Group 39), aged 29. Died in Military Vehicle Accident, at Bloemfontein.

- 1992 29494 — Rifleman Benjamin Boorman, 89096655BW, 3 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 23. Died in Shooting Incident, shot accidentally by fellow member of unit during riot at Mpophoweni.

- 1993 35980 — Sergeant J S Gerhard Mazibuko, 0167002-6, Free State (South African Police), aged 26. Shot by a native.

- 1998 31224 — Rifleman Leon Lambula, 94072618, 2 Field Engineer Regiment, attd. 5 MWU at Army Battle School (SA Army), aged 18. Died at the Nelspruit Infirmary from medical causes.

- 1999 30911 — Warrant Officer Class II Johannes Dawid Jordaan, 74344029PE, 3 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Army), aged 40. Committed suicide, shot himself, at home.

- 2004 33982 — Inspector Dawid Linnert Anderson, 424843-1, Western Cape (South African Police Service), aged 33. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2004 34896 — Inspector Wesley James Harmse, 460109-2, Claremont (South African Police Service), aged 38. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2005 34396 — Inspector Rupert Curtis, 465010-7, Western Cape (South African Police Service), aged 25. Shot dead in his patrol van in Buffelshoek.
