2572Sergeant Jacobus Stephanus Johannes Breytenbach, 1520, Umvoti Mounted Rifles, S.A. Forces, aged 34. Died in air raid, whilst a POW in Germany. During the infamous marching column of POWs from Fallingbostel to Lubeck, where they would have been a potential "bargaining chip" with the Allies at the end of the war, a patrol of Royal Air Force Typhoons mistook the column for German troops and attacked with rockets and cannon fire. Close to 60 men were wounded and 30 were killed, as well as a few German guards. The Typhoons came back over for a second run, but brave POWs ran in the open field, waving their arms to stop a second attack, which the pilots did when realizing their terrible mistake.

The Typhoons came back over for a second run, but brave POWs ran in the open field, waving their arms to stop a second attack, which the pilots did when realizing their terrible mistake.

- 1945 5968 — Private Samuel Joseph Downing, 233005V, Royal Natal Carbineers, S.A. Forces, aged 25. Died of wounds. Both his legs were badly injured in a mine explosion and although his left leg was amputated on the 18th, he did not recover and died on the 19th.

- 1945 8702 — Lieutenant Harry Noel Greenberg, 206825V, 28 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 28. Killed in action, flew into hill descending in cloud near Vitrolles France, in Douglas C-47 Dakota #KN332.

- 1945 8793 — Corporal Trevor Griffiths, 580571V, 28 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 19. Killed in action, flew into hill descending in cloud near Vitrolles France, in Douglas C-47 Dakota #KN332.

- 1979 40203 — Trooper Russel Forbes Poole, 729752, 1st Battalion (Rhodesian Light Infantry), aged 21. Killed in action, in a fire force action in Chiduku Tribal Trust Lands, Makoni District (Rusape), Op Thrasher.

- 1980 31113 — Rifleman Jacobus Petrus Koekemoer, 76528173BG, 7 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 19. Died of injuries, shrapnel wounds during mortar exercise, at 2 MIL Area.

- 1981 29879 — Rifleman Karel Johan Cronje, 78500741BG, 5 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 19. Died of Medical Reason, in 1 Military Hospital. It would seem that he contracted malaria in Sec 10 as a result of drinking polluted water.

- 1982 34037 — Ronald Barkhuizen, 0638597-4, 17 Dist (Graaff Reinet) CE Div (South African Police), aged 31. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1982 32986 — Rifleman Benjamin Barnetson Smit, 77273555, 11 Commando (South African Commandos), aged 21. Died on active service.

- 1984 29849 — Rifleman Frank Corrie, 83061689CK, 1 Sa Cape (South African Cape Corps), aged 21. Died in Shooting Incident.

- 1985 31195 — Special WO Alfons Kumulo, 79485231SC, South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K Division (KOEVOET) (South West African Police), aged 37. Killed in action, during a contact with SWAPO insurgents in Northern Owamboland. Member of Koevoet.

- 1988 33923 — Corporal Edward Clive Yeo, 84572890BG, attd. 101 Battalion (South African Corps of Engineers), aged 20. Killed in action, disarming a landmine, the mine had a secondary charge buried under it which fired and resulted in his death.

- 1991 41828 — Rifleman William Frederick Butler, 87453239BG, H.q. (South African Army), aged 20. Died of injuries, received in Private Vehicle Accident on 1 April. Admitted to the Universitas Hospital, Bloemfontein. He died of his injuries a few days later.

- 1994 36724 — Detective Sergeant Joseph Ndara, 0166701-7, Eastern Cape (South African Police), aged 27. Died in Motor Vehicle Accident.

- 1994 38051 — Warrant Officer Frederik Van Niekerk, 0062560-4, 14 Dist (Port Elizabeth) CE Div (South African Police), aged 26. Shot while investigating a suspicious vehicle in Corlett Drive, Johannesburg.

- 1997 35762 — Sergeant David (Buddy) Mangena, 490219-0, Municipal Police (South African Police), aged 55. Shot dead in Zone three, Meadowlands, Soweto while chasing a suspected criminal.

- 1997 36198 — Sergeant Fano Bethuel Mlondi, 0494755-0, Head Office (South African Police), aged 41. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1998 34753 — Sergeant Dean Gege, 630801-5, Far Northern Transvaal Division (South African Police), aged 24. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.
