Charlie's Omega, Danie van den Berg (memoir/history of Omega Base, 31 Battalion, Just Done Productions 2007), "List of 31 Bn soldiers killed during and after the Bushwar" (p.80-81) -- itself an extract from this ROH website (www.justdone.co.za/ROH/List_People.php?UnitAbv=31Bat, under the site's old PersonNumber scheme) cross-checked by the author against southafricawargraves.org and Ian Uys's book Bushman Soldiers - Their Alpha and Omega, with discrepancies between those sources ('Differ WGP', 'Differ I.Uys') noted where the author found them. Marked 'I' (Internal Conflict) in the book, distinguishing it from the Border War proper.
Unit given as plain '31 Battalion' (not '31 (Bushman) Battalion' or '201 Battalion') to match other post-independence 'Internal Conflict'-era records already on file from the same period (e.g. Pontes PN 41793, Ponto PN 41805).
10 Sep 2026: Mike Sandham flagged possible duplicate with PN 30879; kept as separate person (DoD 1992-10-07 vs 30879's unreliable 1988-01-01).
7 Oct 2026: QUERY, NOT CHANGED. Mike Sandham (SAWGP) omissions email, 7 Oct 2026: no SAWGP record for this man. Two possible leads, neither confirmed: (1) warinangola.com South African Unit Profiles gives "Name and Rank = Johannes J., Rfn, Unit = 201 Battalion" for 1992 -- conflicts with this record's stored Unit "31 Battalion". (2) A "Johannes" is inscribed on the SADF Wall of Remembrance 1991 Army panel (photo hosted on SAWGP under an unrelated page, id=31834 -- Mdakane, Mohapi Petrus here -- just a photo host page, not an identity claim); Sandham speculates this might actually be 84079979BW Rifleman Koos Jacobus Johannes from Cape Regiment, already on this roll as PersonNumber 41777 (died 1991-10-01, pedestrian accident, Cape Town) -- a different date and unit from this record. Not merged or changed; flagged for a human decision.
