The Battalion was on an exercise, walking all the inner base troops from the Opuwa Base to the outside Alpha Base when Koevoet Casspirs came around a bend in the road. They were flagged down and because the whole road was full of troops, the Casspirs elected to drive off into the veld to avoid them. Unfortunately, CPO Mooi who was carrying out point duty, was in the process of relieving himself behind a bush when he was accidentally struck down and driven over by one of the Casspir vehicles.

- 1965 30137 — Pieter J Du Plessis, P2/25294, 2 South African Infantry Battalion (Mercenary), aged 25. Died in bazooka explosion, at Bunia. Resigned from the SAAF when his time expired at the end of contract. It would seem that he joined the merceneries in the Belgian Congo ('Mad" Mike Hoare). His body was repatriated and reburied on 10 Jan 1967.

- 1976 39205 — Lance Corporal William Christoffel De Klerk, PR40808, 8th Battalion (Rhodesia Regiment), aged 31. Died in Shooting Incident, on La Belle Espeance Farm, Mount Darwin, Op Hurricane.

- 1976 40250 — Rifleman George Edward Rose, PR75231, 1 Independent Company (Rhodesia Regiment), aged 24. Committed suicide, in the Company Barracks at Wankie.

- 1976 41483 — Private Walter Eden Bethridge Skinner, 73557894, Benoni Commando (South African Commandos), aged 19. Commited suicide, hot himself in the chest with a R1 Rifle while on guard duty at Tower 5, 95 Ammunition Depot, Lenz. He was busy with a 3 week camp at the time.

- 1977 30869 — Rifleman Pedro Joao, 76901883SP, 32 (Buffalo) Battalion (South West African Territory Force), aged 21. Killed in action, when a hand grenade exploded in the Buffel in which he was travelling near Omundaungilo.

- 1977 40605 — Rifleman Philip Alexander G Yeates, PR81040, 1st Battalion (Rhodesia Regiment), aged 25. Died in Shooting Incident.

- 1978 29525 — Colonel Abraham Jacobus Botha, 01142447, Regiment Molopo (South African Air Force), aged 47. Died from cancer at HF Verwoerd Hospital in Pretoria. He had been boarded as medically unfit, 8 months previously.

- 1978 39449 — Corporal Sean Richard Hutchesson, 727880, 2 Squadron (Rhodesian Corps of Engineers), aged 27. Died on active service.

- 1978 40258 — Lance Corporal Honda Rujada, 662147, 2nd Battalion (Rhodesian African Rifles), aged 36. Died on active service.

- 1980 38679 — Constable Godwell Muramani, 23812, Support Unit (British South Africa Police), aged 27. Died in Vehicle Accident.

- 1981 35783 — Student Robert Manzana, S166436W, Limpopo Province (South African Police), aged 48. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1983 31986 — Chief Petty Officer Nadiem Mooi, 6608825PC, Provost Unit (South African Navy), aged 35. Died in Pedestrian Accident. The Battalion was on an exercise, walking all the inner base troops from the Opuwa Base to the outside Alpha Base when Koevoet Casspirs came around a bend in the road. They were flagged down and because the whole road was full of troops, the Casspirs elected to drive off into the veld to avoid them. Unfortunately, CPO Mooi who was carrying out point duty, was in the process of relieving himself behind a bush when he was accidentally struck down and driven over by one of the Casspir vehicles.

- 1984 41719 — Rifleman Robert De Burg Riordan Haupindi, 82900978SWK, 202 Battalion (South West African Territory Force), aged 20. Killed in action, during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents.

- 1984 31656 — Corporal Theo Crhistopeus Noel Maseti, 83072561CK, 9 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Catering Corps), aged 21. Died in Freak Accident, multiple shrapnel wounds in an accidental mortar bomb explosion, at Ruacana.
