Raised in the Eastern Cape in February 1900 under Colonel Crewe; part of Brabant's Colonial Division (relief of Wepener, Brandwater Basin, later Cape Colony). Stirling, J. The site's separate 57-page WO100/236 QSA medal-roll PDF for this corps is a clasp entitlement roll (resignations/transfers in Remarks), not itself a casualty source. Recorded in the roll as "5.3.00 Labus Nek. Killed". Stirling: on 5 March 1900 the Border Horse lost 2 killed storming Boer schanzes at Labuschagne's Nek. Independently confirmed by a Spink medal-auction description of his QSA (Cape Colony clasp) which notes that a published casualty-roll transcription erroneously gave the date as 5.2.1900. One of the first two members of the regiment killed in action.
