Served SAPS for 17 years from appointment 10 July 2006. Stationed at Atlantis SAPS, Western Cape. On 17 April 2024, reported for duty in full uniform as sector patrol driver partnered with Constable CC Vollmer; responded to domestic violence complaint in Mamre; call escalated; overpowered and shot by suspect, who also attempted to harm colleague and fled with Mahoney's service firearm. Name engraved on Wall of Remembrance for the 2024/2025 Roll of Honour (SAPS Commemoration magazine; Annual Report PERSAL 7073161-6).
