Captain Danasegran Pather, born 8 November 1968, age 56 at death. Devoted father of one (child 18 at time of death). Served SAPS for 36 years from appointment 9 June 1988. Stationed at SAPS Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal (station commander per press). On the evening of 14 December 2024, with Warrant Officer Moses Dumsani Ndlovu (Mandla Dumsani), attending a shooting scene when the armed suspect returned; Ndlovu fatally shot intercepting the suspect; Pather caught in crossfire while attempting to protect his colleague and manage the threat, died at the scene; suspect escaped under cover of darkness; later exchange of gunfire endangered nearby residents; murder case under active investigation. Name engraved on Wall of Remembrance for the 2024/2025 Roll of Honour (SAPS Commemoration magazine joint honour with WO Ndlovu; Annual Report PERSAL 0620057-5).
