Constable Phumzile Matanga, born 28 April 1995, age 29 at death. Served SAPS for two years from appointment 1 April 2022. Based at SAPS Elliotdale, Eastern Cape. On 6 May 2024, responding with his team to a request for backup from Kwaaiman Police Station; team identified target vehicle travelling at high speed and positioned to intercept; while directing traffic from the opposite side of the road, fatally struck by a truck that failed to stop; immediate death. Culpable homicide case under investigation. Name engraved on Wall of Remembrance for the 2024/2025 Roll of Honour (SAPS Commemoration magazine; Annual Report PERSAL 2822473-6).
