Research notes

SN CORRECTION 25 Aug 2026: ServiceNo 80676695KB cleared -- the pantser.cmvo.org.za SADF deaths PDF lists that number under "KAVATJANA, " (RFN, Sterf 21 12 80), matching PersonNumber 31014 (Kavatjana, DateDeath 1980-12-21) by surname and exact date, not this record. Original value: "80676695KB". Left as an unresolved collision otherwise -- this correction is specific to this one PDF-confirmed case, not a general claim this record's other data is wrong.
7 Sep 2026: CauseDeath was a forward-fill copy from PN 31014 (Kavatjana, Noag (C)), an unrelated record -- cleared as contamination (CauseDeath-contamination scan, data/causedeath-contamination-scan-2026-09-07.md), not a real cause.

Absorbed from deleted PN 49371: Charlie's Omega, Danie van den Berg (memoir/history of Omega Base, 31 Battalion, Just Done Productions 2007), "List of 31 Bn soldiers killed during and after the Bushwar" (p.80-81) -- itself an extract from this ROH website (www.justdone.co.za/ROH/List_People.php?UnitAbv=31Bat, under the site's old PersonNumber scheme) cross-checked by the author against southafricawargraves.org and Ian Uys's book Bushman Soldiers - Their Alpha and Omega, with discrepancies between those sources ('Differ WGP', 'Differ I.Uys') noted where the author found them. Marked 'I' (Internal Conflict); the book flags this entry 'Differ WGP 1988/B' -- the War Graves Project apparently dates this death to 1988, during the Border War proper, not 1992.
Unit given as plain '31 Battalion' (not '31 (Bushman) Battalion' or '201 Battalion') to match other post-independence 'Internal Conflict'-era records already on file from the same period (e.g. Pontes PN 41793, Ponto PN 41805).

MERGE 10 Sep 2026: PersonNumber 49371 deleted as a duplicate of this record. Cleared contaminated FirstName Noag (Kavari/Kavatjana trail). Took DateDeath 1992-11-22 and cause from Charlies Omega. Unit set to 31 Battalion. Flagged by Mike Sandham.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED as a duplicate. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word repeating what the Branch column already says. Secondary Unit is for sub-units -- a company, a squadron, a commando -- and this record's branch of service is unchanged at "Army".
