Formed 28 November 1855 as the Cape Rifle Corps, the first volunteer unit in the Cape Colony -- predates the Union Defence Force's 1913 Active Citizen Force / Regular Force system entirely. Transferred into the Active Citizen Force in 1913; later Duke of Edinburgh's Own Rifles, then Cape Town Rifles (1961); renamed Chief Langalibalele Rifles 2019.
