Son of the late David Filtness, of Brighton, Sussex; also served in the German South-West African campaign. Prior to gaining his commission he had served as a Private in the 5th Mounted Rifles, serving in the German South-West African campaign. For his wartime services he was twice Mentioned in Despatches. ref. South African Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
