Border Scouts enrollment/discharge ledger and QSA remarks roll (WO127-style scans on angloboerwar.com's Border Scouts unit page, 'Nominal rolls (3)' tab: Roll 2 / 8th Squadron ledgers plus Roll 1 QSA remarks). Raised at Upington, May 1900; later 8 squadrons, 786 all ranks; north-western Cape Colony (Kenhardt–Upington–Prieska). Stirling, J. (1907), The Colonials in South Africa 1899-1902, as reproduced on the same unit page: 1 officer and 19 NCOs and men killed, over 100 wounded; 'Curiously enough, no man of the regiment died of disease.' Ledger disease deaths are recorded anyway — Stirling's none-of-disease claim is noted, not used to omit them. angloboerwar.com Boer War Forum, 'Medals to the Border Scouts' (https://www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-awards/30317-medals-to-the-border-scouts Roll 2: 36 Britz Gideon Tpr/Cpl, "died dis. 7.4.01". QSA: "Died enteric 7.4.01". Stirling's no-disease-deaths claim noted, not used to omit him.
