Raised at Upington, May 1900; later 8 squadrons, 786 all ranks; north-western Cape Colony (Kenhardt–Upington–Prieska). Stirling, J. (1907), The Colonials in South Africa 1899-1902, as reproduced on the same unit page: 1 officer and 19 NCOs and men killed, over 100 wounded; 'Curiously enough, no man of the regiment died of disease.' QSA no. 625 is Beukes Piet with a Waterfall discharge remark dated 31.9.01 (invalid calendar date) — possible number collision or the same man under a different first name; Jacobus from the killed line is stored. Stirling: on 8 July 1901, after the 25 June fight with Conroy, there was further fighting and the Scouts lost 3 men killed (Captain C. Tabuteau wounded — he appears later in this roll as a surviving officer). The ledger names more than three killed that day at Waterfall; all named deaths are added.
Second reading of the QSA remarks roll (1 Sep 2026) after a page-scan of all 39 Roll 1 images. QSA 625 is Beukes Piet, remarks "Killed by Boers, near Witputs" with a clerk date 31.9.01 (invalid). Roll 2 killed line is Jacobus 625, 8.7.01 (Waterfall). Both readings kept on this record; DateDeath remains 1901-07-08 from roll 2.
