Bethune's M.I.), enlisted 19 Oct 1899, killed in Goff's Disaster, buried at Scheepers Nek, named on the Memorial Tablet there. A second Reams (133 J. A.) was also killed in this action. Stirling (quoting Buller's telegram of 21 May 1900): on 20 May 1900 one squadron was ambushed about six miles south of Vryheid (Scheepers Nek, later called Goff's Disaster); Captain Goff, Lieutenants Lanham and M'Lachlan, and about 26 NCOs and men were killed.
