Stirling (quoting Buller's telegram of 21 May 1900): on 20 May 1900 one squadron was ambushed about six miles south of Vryheid (Scheepers Nek, later called Goff's Disaster); Captain Goff, Lieutenants Lanham and M'Lachlan, and about 26 NCOs and men were killed.
