Plumer's Men: The Rhodesia Regiment and the Northwest Frontier during the Second South African War, 1899-1900, Robert Burrett (extensively footnoted against contemporary newspapers, the Rhodesia Regiment Roll, Rhodesian death registers, and NAZ archival sources).: full biography given -- born 1865 in Lincolnshire, England; arrived in South Africa 1881; joined the Bechuanaland Border Police 1885; joined Rhodes' Pioneer Corps as Quartermaster 1890; led a troop of the Salisbury Horse in the Anglo-Matabele War of 1893; served throughout the 1896 Matabele Uprising, awarded the C.M.G.; commanded the Rhodesia Regiment's E Troop before this war. Not previously on the ROH.
