Shot and killed shortly after he had closed his fast-food outlet. Was on his way from his business to a parking lot when the attack happened. Two unknown men armed with firearms approached Roodt outside a lift inside the building and demanded his personal firearm, when Roodt took out his pistol to give to the assailants, the two men opened fire on him. Roodt was shot through the chin and died at the scene
