WWI ROH #23 Corporal CASEY, Thomas Patrick, age 26, Force No 3464, 1st South African Infantry Brigade: Born PMB 5/3/1890; a fitter with the Durban Corporation before enlistment; served with the Durban Light Infantry in GSWA 1914- 1915; served with the 2nd Regiment in France & Belgium; fought in the Battle of Delville Wood in July 1916; killed in action at Gauche Wood, near Peronne, France. (Body never found.) (His brother James Casey also died in WWI.) Buried/commemorated: Pozieres Memorial to the Missing, Somme, France. (Also, on St.Joseph’s Catholic Church, Greyville; the Durban Corporation; the Durban Light Infantry & the Durban Cenotaph WWI Memorials.)
