My Grandfather fought in the bore war . His full name was Edward Gerrard Vane, he was also in the "Cape Mounted Rifles" I am not sure whether he enlisted in Englend or Australia. I do know that he came back to Tasmania Australia and he joined the Tasmanian police force where he married.He was the first trooper (policeman) into Queenstown Tasmania and later was a trooper at Mathinia Tasmania.When he left Mathinia the residents presented him with a leather oval container in 1909.with good wishes.
