Cause of Death
Died in Aircraft Accident, at Terrace Bay, South West Africa, in Alouette III #65. They were allocated call sign "SAP 4" and tasked to assist the SAP Sgt Olivier whose vehicle was giving trouble while on patrol near the Cunene River. Together with Lt T Winterbach, SAP member Cst DJA Brand and two officials from the Consolidated Diamond Mines, PJ Holmes and D Bernhardt, they took off to look for Sgt Olivier. As the banked over the sea to turn northwards, the helicopter hit the sea and broke apart. There were no survivors and his body was not recovered
