Cause of Death
Killed in action, in North American F-51 Mustang #318. Lt G.J. Baransky was a member of a Rescue Flight, led by USAF 1Lt Stapley, on standby over Cho-Do Island. They were supplying a combat air patrol (CAP) for a pilot who had baled out. This pilot asked Stapley to move further south to avoid drawing attention to him on the ground, and while they were heading south another pilot baled out in the vicinity and they 'capped' his position also. A call then came in that a third aircraft had gone in, and on looking for his No.3 (Lt Baransky), 1Lt Stapley discovered he was missing. He found a fire in the vicinity of where Baransky had been circling, but no sign of the pilot or his aircraft
