Jordan, Royal Durban Light Infantry WWII Roll of Honour ("working document", Aug 2026 draft; email to John & Bobby, 4 Sep 2026, marked "not 100% correct"): BRAND, George Nicol (Son of Jessie (born Baxter) Brand of 133 Mansfield Road, Durban; residence 225 Sarnia Rd., Rossburgh; father Charles Brand deceased.) 93245 Private Royal Durban Light Infantry Born Scotland 1887; retired engine driver for SAR&H before enlistment; served with the 2nd Battalion RDLI in North Africa; drowned at sea, when German submarine U-177 torpedoed and sank S.S. NOVA SCOTIA off the Zululand coast, while returning to South Africa. (Body never found.) Alamein Memorial to the Missing, El Alamein, Egypt.
