Son of Walter Henry Power, and of Annie Elizabeth Power, of Silverton, Transvaal, South Africa. Born in Waterval Bovem, Transvaal on the 12th September, 1923. Educated at Glenwood High School, Durban. Senior Cadet Captain on Bothie. He joined the R.N.R. as Midshipman and was transferred to the Fleet Air Arm. He served on the HMS Austerious, AMC HMS Pretoria Castle and HMS Heron. He was a Sub Lieutenant and could not become a full Lieutenant in the Royal Navy until he turned 21.
