Campaign medal for Royal Navy, British Army, and locally recruited Cape Mounted Riflemen who served in the Cape of Good Hope during the Xhosa Wars, 1834-1853. Inscribed "SOUTH AFRICA" and "1853"; reverse shows a crouching lion before a protea bush. Ribbon 32mm wide, alternating golden-yellow and dark blue bands.
